Student Senate

The Student Senate plays a crucial role in the governance and representation of the Student Body. It serves as the legislative branch of the Morningside Student Government (MSG), often working in tandem with the Executive Council to create a balanced system of checks and balances. Elected by their peers, members of the Student Senate serve as advocates for the student community, working to ensure that their needs are addressed and their rights are upheld.

As laid out in the Constitution, the Student Senate's charge is to make decisions representing the best interests of the Student Body. With a quorum present, the Student Senate shall have the power to initiate and consider legislation, expenditures, actions from various committees, and have such other powers as are necessary for the proper and efficient functioning of the MSG.

It is composed of fifteen undergraduate students, who are elected in the fall and serve until the end of the academic year. Of these fifteen senators, four are elected by the Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior classes, while three are elected from the Senior class. Check out this year's Student Senators below!
